Young people are Australia’s future, a future where the workforce is skilled and sustainable. Giving young Australians the very best start in their career begins with training and, most importantly, learning why having the right attitude, behaviour and applying best practice at work is so important, particularly during apprenticeships. Productivity Force works with Danrae Group to achieve this.

“For the past year and, recently within the last few months I have dealt with Scott MacKenzie from Productivity Force regarding the onboard of trainees, who currently work on our job sites including Westmead Hospital. It has been a pleasure to work with and assist Productivity Force in creating a future for the younger generation in construction.”
Daniel Caruana, CEO, Danrae Group

Danrae Group are experts in waterproofing diagnostics, remediation and construction. For over 20 years Danrae have been providing exceptional waterproofing and remedial building services and have grown to become the in-demand go-to for clients across the country who need diagnostic advice, design and remediation quickly, efficiently and expertly.

Asked what they enjoy about working with Danrae, the Productivity Force trainees smile and say:

“Working at Danrae is really good. It’s not just about waterproofing. I’m learning so much more, all kinds of construction and building.”
Chan D. 1st Year Trainee Waterproofer

“We’re always busy, its remediation so there is so much to do. Danrae supervisors are great. Good safety and great job site”
Frank T 1st Year Trainee Waterproofer

Daniel Caruana, CEO, Danrae Group says “Productivity Force have been great to work with, and the quality of candidates that Productivity Force have provided have been hard working and willing to learn. I would definitely recommend Productivity Force and their work ready apprentices for your organisation.”

Investing in young people today, particularly through Apprenticeships, will ensure a strong workforce of the future. This is something highly valued by Productivity Force and Oriel Building Services and is evidenced through their strong partnership that has continued to grow since 2018.

Oriel Building Services specialises in commercial carpentry, heritage, and hoarding works. They have gained a reputation in the NSW Building Industry for high quality workmanship and timely completion of projects. They have seen first-hand the skill shortages within the construction industry and reached out to Productivity Force in hope of becoming part of the solution.

“At Oriel, we are committed to developing carpenters of the future. The quality of Apprentices that we receive from Productivity Force is outstanding and it makes it so much easier for us to really focus on teaching quality, precision and a high standard of carpentry.” – Greg O’Connor, Owner, Oriel Building Services

Productivity Force offers an apprentice-hire model like no other. One of the key features of the model is the 8-weeks of intense training that their apprentices undertake with Productivity Bootcamp prior to starting employment.

“Bootcamp was awesome. It shows you what to do before you even get to a site. It’s so good to be able to just get the right tools for the Tradesmen from the start.” – Matt, 2nd year Carpentry Apprentice, Productivity Force/Oriel Building Services

Apprentices like Matt have had the opportunity to work on major projects such as the Barangaroo Foreshore Deck and Wynyard’s heritage listed Transport House in Sydney’s CBD.

This year Productivity Force was awarded the Landscape Maintenance and Restoration contract at the prestigious Fernhill Estate in Mulgoa.

Fernhill Estate is an iconic rural landholding overlooking the Mulgoa Valley. The Estate spans 383 hectares of rolling parkland at the foot of the Blue Mountains, it encompasses a magnificent sandstone residence, additional cottages, a horse racing track and stables.

NSW Government has partnered with Productivity Force to restore the estate to its former glory. This includes works such as lawn care and maintenance, repair and construction of timber fencing, repair and construction of stone walls as well as general landscape maintenance tasks.

The project has created employment opportunities for a crew of six, including three Apprentices. In addition to this, we invited our sister company, Productivity Bootcamp to join us in creating work experience opportunities for young people, participating in their intensive 8-week construction training course.

“We welcome the opportunity to work with Government on projects such as the Fernhill Estate. Our team are enjoying being part of such an iconic project and are looking forward to continuing to see the project evolve and hopefully continue our partnership well in to the future”
Kieran Duffy, Executive Director, Productivity Force

At Productivity Force health and safety is our priority and we follow a culture of ‘no harm; safety is everybody’s business’. We therefore do everything to provide our workers with what they need to do their job efficiently and safely. This means that if you are looking to hire an apprentice or skilled trade from us, then you can be assured that the following is carried out:

Training
Training begins with the 8-week intensive program our apprentices complete through our sister company, Productivity Bootcamp. Construction health and safety is at the heart of this training with all apprentices taught safe work processes and practices, ensuring that before they reach the work site, they are aware of dangers and therefore have less chance of injury at work.

Process
All personnel at Productivity Force are responsible for ensuring that no task is undertaken if safety standards will be compromised, as well as being actively encouraged to notify safety matters for the development of effective solutions. We also have thorough processes which identify, assess, monitor and control hazards including inductions, ongoing training and operating procedures.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
With the building and construction industry being one of the most high-risk industries we cannot afford to neglect this important aspect of keeping our people safe. All workers are required to carry their own PPE at all times while at work. This includes high-vis tops, hardhats, googles, gloves and work boots, all of which help to protect them from equipment, falling objects, flying particles and chemical splashes.

Compliance
We meet all legal construction health and safety obligations and inform our workers on their requirements to ensure everyone understands and complies with Government legislation. This includes, requiring all our tradespeople to carry valid White Cards which certifies training on WHS legislative requirements, the principles of risk management and prevention of injury and illness.

In line with our culture ‘safety is everyone’s business’, we also ensure our labour hire clients value construction health and safety as much as we do. We therefore require that they provide a safe working place for our workers and are compliant with the Work Health and Safety Act and Work Health and Safety Regulation.

If you are looking to hire an apprentice or tradesperson who puts safety first, contact us today.

An apprenticeship is an excellent way to gain industry experience and a qualification, allowing you to put your skills into practice. While you can enter into an apprenticeship without any experience, there are personal qualities employers look for before they hire an apprentice, including us here at Productivity Force. These are:

Positive
attitude

A positive attitude and a desire to get stuck in goes a
long way in an apprenticeship and is one of the most important qualities we
look for before we hire an apprentice. Enthusiasm towards work and a readiness
to take up new challenges will be essential to not only the successful
completion of an apprenticeship but also a career in your chosen trade.

Willingness
to learn

A willingness to learn is important as you will need to
motivate yourself to complete the work required for your qualification, while
learning the practical skills required for the job. In
addition, new technologies, tools and processes will emerge throughout your
career which means that you’ll need to constantly keep up with changes in the
industry.

Practical

A practical person usually does not
perform best in a classroom environment and instead prefers to learn by doing. Practical
people thrive in an apprenticeship as they are
able to learn on the job from skilled professionals. They also tend to enjoy the
physically demanding work, like being outside and get a real buzz from creating
something brand new.

Effective
communicator

Apprentices
who can communicate their concerns, ask questions, and make decisions
effectively will gain the most out of an apprenticeship. These interpersonal
skills will also be required for a successful career in the industry, where being
able to work as part of a team and develop
good relationships with colleagues is essential.

Time
management

Time management within an apprenticeship is vital as you
will need to be able to balance a job role with a qualification. This will also
set you up for a successful future as those who are good at managing their time know
how to prioritise their tasks in order to complete projects according to
deadlines.

If you think you have these personal qualities that make a great apprentice, or if you are looking to hire an apprentice, contact us today.

As a key driver of the Australian Economy, the construction industry will be key to post-pandemic recovery. The sector not only produces infrastructure essential to the operation of other industries, but also generates over $360 billion in revenue and employs 1.2 million people.

The country is now however in the grips of its first recession in nearly three decades and due to this economic fallout, it is even more crucial the sector continues to keep businesses afloat and employees in jobs. Thankfully, the Federal Government is supporting the growth of the sector thorough economic stimulus designed to create work and spark a pandemic economic recovery.

This includes a new package which offers one-off cash payments worth $25,000 to those eligible for building and renovations projects, with the Prime Minister Scott Morrison stating that the new program was about job creation, and supporting one million workers in the sector. In addition to this, local governments have been urged to nominate potential road projects for funding, along with a further $3 billion Job Acceleration Fund, which will be used for smaller, construction-ready projects around the state, as part of further response.

Throughout these unprecedented times, construction work has continued, deemed an essential service and framed as a national economic priority. This, along with an increase in infrastructure spending, makes a job in the trades a secure and attractive career choice.

One of the key benefits of temporary labour hire is the agility it provides, and if COVID-19 taught business owners anything, it’s the importance of this. The businesses that have flourished during this time are those who have adapted to the changing environment. Temporary labour hire providers like Productivity Force enable this by providing the flexibility to scale your workforce up or down as required. There are also many more benefits to utilising labour hire to outsource workers, including:

Cost Saving

Using temporary labour hire can reduce recruitment costs for your business. This includes the initial costs of advertising, selecting and on-boarding the employee as well as the ongoing costs of training, workers compensation, superannuation, leave and insurance, which the labour hire company are responsible for. Also, since temporary workers are only hired when necessary, companies can save on employment costs by only having fundamental staff on their books and expanding their workforce only when required.

Value

Temporary labour hire solutions can vary from skilled workers to apprentices, both of which provide exceptional value. Skilled workers can fill gaps in your workforce when projects require particular skillsets, allowing you to bring in trades with the experience required to perform these specialised tasks, as required. In addition, Productivity Force’s work-ready apprentices can provide your site with additional support whilst leaving the management of learning, progression and mentorship to us.

Overcoming the skilled labour
shortage

Another benefit of investing in temporary labour hire is that you are also helping to address the skilled labour shortage within the construction industry. This shortage is attributed to fewer apprentices moving through the system and the current workforce ageing out, which threatens the longevity of the industry. By using labour hire companies like Productivity Force who recruit, train and mentor apprentices, you are providing these young workers with the opportunity to build their skills and gain experience.

Are you wanting to reduce costs for your business? Are you having difficulty finding workers with a particular skillset? Contact us and we will connect you with the right candidate for the job.

The construction industry is experiencing a prevailing labour shortage with just half the qualified candidates per advertised construction jobs. This problem is also only expected to get worse as more older workers retire with fewer young people signing up to replace them. The main reason attributed to this is the negative perception around a career in the industry, with many perceiving the work as repetitive and unfulfilling with low pay and no development opportunities, when this couldn’t be further from the truth.

More Opportunities

The industry provides many routes to start off, and unlike those with University degrees who can find it difficult to land jobs after graduation, there is a growing labour demand with job seekers quickly finding quality employment in a wide range of positions. These positions are diverse and the opportunities are endless with plenty of progression opportunities, which require constant developments. At Productivity Force we recognise this by continually providing training, mentorship and development of the workforce, focusing on upskilling as new services are required.

Higher Pay

Part of changing the perception around trade jobs is debunking the myth that construction jobs pay less than some white-collar jobs. Due to the labour shortage in the construction industry, companies are willing to pay competitive salaries to attract skilled workers to construction jobs. Currently, there are many six-figure positions open with not enough skilled candidates to fill them, unlike other industries where well-paid positions are extremely competitive with far more candidates than available positions. And for those just starting out, construction jobs also often have higher starting salaries than most other careers.

Engaging Work

A career in construction also provides plenty of job satisfaction, no day is ever the same, every day is a new challenge and you can really make a difference to the local community in building essential infrastructure like schools, hospitals and roads. At Productivity Force we also work with a range of social enterprises, including Evolve Housing, a leading not-for-profit provider of social and affordable housing, based in Western Sydney.

The
industry is one of Australia’s biggest and fastest growing sectors, meaning
there will only be more demand for new talent as time goes on.
Therefore, with many
workers from other industries suddenly finding themselves unemployed or stood
down, the construction industry may be a promising career change for them, or
for anyone else who is thinking of their next move, including those just
beginning their working life.

A sustainable workforce describes how able and willing employees are to remain working and is critical in maintaining a sufficient workforce. It focuses on attracting and retaining the right people by meeting their wants and needs through mentoring, education, training and support services that enable them to progress towards their career goals.

Relative to other industries, the construction workforce is known for its high turnover rates as well as its challenges around recruiting new trainees and apprentices for long term careers. A significant reason for this is a general lack of investment in the development of the workforce, with the industry being said to have one of the lowest rates of per employee investment on training.

This has led
to a sustained skill shortage in the industry, where poor training and a
lack of supervision is leading
to poor outcomes, including a shortage of productive and site-ready apprentices
along with high drop-out rates.

Addressing this is our unique 8-week training course called Productivity Bootcamp. The program uses realistic work stations, tools and working conditions to ensure that the fundamental skills and safety, coupled with the right attitude is the foundation for our apprentices and trainees.

At the
completion of the 8-week intensive program, we provide placement and ongoing
education, progression and mentorship to ensure a high success rate and
ultimately, a more sustainable
construction workforce for the future.

At Productivity Force we take pride in the supervisors, trades, apprentices and labour hire solutions we provide to the construction industry, across Australia. We continuously work to achieve a safe, productive and quality-led environment for both our customers and personnel.

The unfolding COVID-19 epidemic has seen entire countries across the world placed into complete lockdown with the shutdown of all non-essential services. Currently, the continuity of building functions including critical infrastructure projects across the supply and support chain has been deemed as essential by the Australian Government.

In a media statement on the 18th March, the Prime Minister explicitly referred to construction sites as an ‘essential activity‘, confirming that the advice regarding large gatherings did not apply. Furthermore, as one of the largest employers, the construction industry is the survival engine of the national economy and it is therefore crucial that the industry continues to operate, whilst balancing the health of over a million employees.

At Productivity Force, we are committed to the safety and wellbeing of our employees and have implemented social distancing measures, meal break adjustments and additional cleaning and sanitation practices. Despite these measures being enacted on construction projects across the country, there will undoubtedly be an impact to the supply of labour. Therefore, establishing a contingency plan to allow vital projects to progress is crucial.

As the spread of the virus continues, more people are finding themselves unwell, in quarantine or self-isolation. Subsequently, regular staff may not be able to attend work for a significant period of time. Temporary labour hire may be a solution to reduce the impact of this. We can quickly mobilise reliable, skilled trades, labour and apprentices to urban and remote locations nationwide.

At Productivity Force, we are dedicated to ensuring our clients are able to continue operating throughout this challenging time. Contact us to find out how our skilled crews and apprentices can assist.
